2017 Winners & 2018 Competition Launch Announced This Fall

Dear Sponsor,

Thank you so much for sponsoring a student or student group in the Bow Seat Marine Debris Creative Advocacy Competition! We respect the incredible work you do to inspire, empower, and engage young students in environmental awareness, ocean activism, and the arts. We absolutely could not be doing what we are doing without you. THANK YOU!

Your Responsibilities as a Sponsor

Your primary responsibility as a sponsor is to provide your student or student group with advice and support throughout their advocacy project and to serve as an additional point of contact for the Bow Seat team. When your students register for the Competition, they will be asked to provide your name and email address. They will also be required to upload your Sponsor Letter of Commitment at that time. From then on, you will be included in all emails that Bow Seat sends out regarding the Competition.

You should also familiarize yourself with the Rules & Requirements for participating in the Competition, as well as the Final Project Report checklist of the information and supporting materials needed for submission. In particular, you will be responsible for reminding each student in the group to complete the required Pre- and Post-Participation Surveys, which will be made available to the students after their registration has been approved and after their Final Project Report Checklist has been submitted, respectively. This Competition involves many components, and your help in keeping your students organized and on track will be essential to their success!

If for any reason you are unable to fulfill your commitment as a sponsor, we expect that you will help your students find a replacement. In the unlikely event this should happen, please alert the Bow Seat team as soon as possible. The new sponsor will need to submit a new Letter of Commitment.

Bow Seat’s Advocacy Project Advisor is available to you and your students throughout the Competition period for questions, brainstorming, and guidance, and we encourage you to maintain regular communications with us. Get in touch with the Advocacy Project Advisor at: advocacy@fromthebowseat.org.

In addition, we have compiled some resources to help you and your students get started on your project. The linked pages include educational materials for learning more about marine debris, tools and tips for implementing an advocacy campaign, and inspiration to get students’ creative juices flowing!

We think that one of the most important parts of advocacy is having conversations and thinking critically about ocean issues, including marine debris. We encourage you to talk with your students about marine debris and how the creative arts can make a meaningful difference in our world.

Sponsor Appreciation Awards

Bow Seat grants Sponsor Appreciation Awards of $750 to sponsors who help change the lives of their students and change the world for the better! These awards are nomination-based, and your students can nominate you using this online form.
